For months now, both my sister and my hubby have been telling me to move my craft room upstairs. I think they were tired of listening to me complain about the bad lighting in the basement, how cold it is down there, lack of space, etc. etc. But inertia and me, we're *this* close, so it took a long time to even think about it.
You all know how it is, how many people enjoy moving, even in your work cubicle? I doubt too many and when you have to move a ton of little bits and pieces, it's that much worse.
We started by buying bins to store all the made soaps. This is partly so I can transport them to craft fairs more efficiently (and less set up time) and also to try and reduce the glycerin dew that was taking place in the basement.

Then it was off to Costco to buy more racks and that was it. I had to move at that point. I'm definitely happier being in a brighter, more well lit room and having a room dedicated to my soaps and other crafts. I'm still in moving mode, so you'll have to pardon the mess. :)
Looks great! Nice space too! Fun, right?
ReplyDeleteIt's sometimes hard to find the right "home" for soapmaking, crafts--but when you do and it's all done- it will be so much fun to be organized.
When this happens (at least for me), it's so much easier to be creative!
If I configure this room right it's a great space. I wish I had your enthusiasm for organizing Carrie, it would probably help me procrastinate less.
DeleteI think you're creative regardless as you do such beautiful work all the time.
I love your new space, so spacious and bright! I really like those racks too, such a nice height for working at. Have fun in your new crafting room! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's so much better than the dark cold basement, that's for sure Cee! And it helps that I took the picture of the room while it's still summer out. :) The racks are great, really versatile and it allows the room to look spacious still.
DeleteI'd have more fun in my craft room if someone could set it all up for me in a way that looks cool but still be functional. Any takers? ;)
Wow, so much space to make soaps!!! It's lovely, Monica, your husband and your sister were right!
ReplyDeleteWaiting to see your new soaps :)
We are so fortunate here in North America Nat. We do have tons of space but it never seems to be enough. Shhh, don't tell them they're right, I'll never hear the end of it. ;)
DeleteOh boy, now the pressure's really on. =)
Great space! I love all the light!
ReplyDeleteThat has always been a challenge for me, finding a well lit area to craft in. Moved from the upstairs to the dining room to the basement and now want to move back to the dining room. *sigh.
Your space looks perfect and I'm sure it will inspire you even more :) I look forward to seeing all the new soaps you design in the new spot.
It helps to be higher up for a change Michelle. I'm sure a lot of people soap in their dining room because it's close enough to the kitchen that you can do your cooking and your soaping almost at the same time. IT takes time to find that perfect space for doing your crafts, my biggest dilemma was finding enough storage.
DeleteHopefully between Pinterest and actually being able to see what I'm doing, I'll get inspired to do lots.
Now, I really envy you! What a loveliness! I think I would want to sleep there! All new and neat and so inspiring! When a change brings any better, oh, I'm sooo for it! And this was definitely right thing to do!
ReplyDeleteHappy soaping in your new 'studio'!
You're so welcome to come over anytime Maja. I'd love to have you visit and teach me how to make all those gorgeous soaps you make.
DeleteI'm definitely hoping this new space will give me more inspiration to create new soaps. If nothing else, it'll leave me no excuses not to clean up all my soaping tools because there's a sink in the next room. :)
Stupid thing was saying three times that I wrote wrong code and then published my comment three times! Please Mo, delete those two (you can delete this one, too) forever!
ReplyDeleteYour wish is my command. I find usually the blogs end up eating my replies instead.
DeleteI love it!!! I knew you should move. It's depressing working in a room without sunshine. :) Can't wait to see the finished pics!
ReplyDeleteI know, you always know best Teresa. Plus with the racks at this height, I'm not having to bend over to work on the detailing. You'll see the finished room in probably 5 years from now at least. ;)
DeleteOh, that room looks like heaven. Right now I split my time between the downstairs daylight (yet still cold, despite carpeting) basement and the kitchen. I have seen those racks at Costco and every time I walk by them I think: "Soon. You will be mine and my soap room will look like I've always wanted it to look..." Then I roll past them to buy, yet another, giant box of diapers. (grumble, grumble...)
ReplyDeleteThe new space looks light and bright - it's awesome!
It definitely helps to be taking the picture during the summer Lindsey. I was like you before, I'd end up finding excuses to do my soaping in the kitchen where it's brighter and warmer.
DeleteYou're hilarious! You have to splurge and buy yourself those racks. You know how to justify it? They're so much cheaper at Costco than anywhere else. And just think, they'll last longer in your house than the diapers. =)
