I'm ready for my photoshop, Mr. De Spielberg

What's more fun than mixing metaphors? Mixing names. Yeah right. I need to find something a little more entertaining.

As Cee mentioned in her post a couple of weeks back, it's getting more difficult to take pictures with natural lighting now that it's become more scarce. Natural lighting in my house is iffy at the best of times, so I turn to my friend, Picasa.

I use Picasa to put more light on my pictures that the window just doesn't allow for, and to crop the pictures to focus on the soap which I'm not very good at with my little point and shoot.

Embeds, because it seemed like a good idea at the time.
There are lots of posts on how to make your own lightbox, which I need to do one of these days because those shadows are darned annoying.

The other soap I made this week was inspired by what I saw on Pinterest for men's soap. This one in particular made me go wow. Mine didn't turn out as well, and not just because it's not CP soap. Did you know you can actually have your soap so hot that it melts the plastic mould? I'm really overdue to get a thermometer.
But it smells good at least. Beau Brummel, one of my favourite scents.

And last but not least, I got another order for the alphabets. So I've gotten a good start on it, I think.

Stay dry (at least if you're on the west coast) and have a great week!

  1. Good gravy! Just don't burn yourself! I always cooled it down to the temp Anne-Marie's tutorials say to. I know what to get you for your birthday now!

    1. I was being lazy, I seem to do that every other time I make a soap and I was hoping that it'd be hot enough to pour a thin layer. The opposite happened though and with bad results.

No, don't get my stupidity a birthday gift. It's a learning experience.

  2. Taking pics, and especially editing, is so time and work consuming job, I know. I try to use natural light as much as possible, but I admit I use some online editors (I like iPiccy), mostly to adjust the brightness and to cut/clone/blur background.
It's so cool that you can wash up with your 'name'! You really can sell them as names, not letters!

    1. You take amazing pictures Maja, I should look into iPiccy and see if I can do more with it than I can with Picasa.

Love the idea of making up names with the alphabets! I'll have to make that my next selling point. Thanks for the suggestion!

  3. Those alphabet soaps are so cute, Monica! Nice job on the Beau Brummel and embed soaps, too. I like iPiccy as well, and mostly use it to edit my photos. You can adjust the brightness and contrast, make collages, add text and effects, and other cool stuff. And it's free - just click "Start Editing" and you're on your way!

    1. Thanks Jenny! The alphabet soaps are great in terms of pouring them, nice and easy. The hard part is wrapping each individual soap, I can see why people like to make CP soaps as well.

Another vote for iPiccy, I definitely have to check it out, thanks!

  4. The alphabets are a brilliant idea and I'm happy to hear you got another order, and I hope many more to follow! Your Beau Brummel looks good - simple and clean. I have that scent too but I have yet to figure out a design for it.

    1. Thank you Silvia. I can't take credit for the idea though, the lady who orders them saw my complete alphabet set and liked them. I hope to get many more orders in the future as well. :)

I love Beau Brummel, it's definitely got a masculine tone to it, but I find quite a few females like it as well. I'm sure you'll come up with something amazing to match the scent.

  5. Congrats on the new soap order! I am so happy for you!!

As for the lightbox... I tried making my own and it was a total fail. If you make one and love it please blog about it. I am so terrible at taking pictures and that natural light thing... that pretty much stinks for me too :(

    1. Thanks Michelle! Yeah I'd kinda given up hope on hearing back from this customer, so I was thrilled when she got in touch again.

At the rate I'm going, I won't have a lighbox made until I retire, but if/when I do, I'll be sure to blog it. :)
