I'm Grateful

Well it's Thanksgiving on Monday here in Canada, and normally I'd be rejoicing at an extra day off, this year it's just another day since I'm not working a regular 9 to 5 job.

That doesn't mean however, I'm not thankful for many things, so let me list them off in as them come to mind:

  1. all of you for reading my blog and laughing at my corny jokes
  2. the soaping community in general, for great advice and wonderful support
  3. friends and family who support my endeavours to make this soaping hobby into a business
  4. still being able to keep those voices in my head from talking out loud, too often
And because it's fall, I had to make some fall type soaps right? Remember last week when I had made the moon from leftover soap? Well I had actually started by making leaves with that leftover soap. I thought I'd be clever and try and layer the leaves to create a more 3-D effect and rather than putting the leaves in neatly, I'd just kinda scatter them to the wind, so to speak, and then cut along the marked edges of where the soaps are supposed to be cut. These are some of the results.

These are scented with a chai tea FO, which is quite warm and pretty scent.

So to my Canadian friends, how are you celebrating Thanksgiving? And to my American friends, is the thought of Thanksgiving making you panic yet? ;)

  1. I hope you're having nice day off, Monica! I'm wondering how your soap smell, all those 'tea' scents sonund so intriguing to me, but still haven't tried any. Should I? Your leaves reminds me of the brighter, more romantic side of fall!

    1. Thanks so much Maja! It was nice spending the day with friends and family. If you like teas and that sort of warm sort of scent, then you'd probably really like the "tea" scents. You work such magic with your soaps, you'd work wonders with these scents.

Thank you, it's good to romanticize the seasons, isn't it?

  2. Hi Monica! NIce to reflect on what you're thankful for- and a day off whether you work a 9-5/M-F job or not!

You're soaps look and sound beautiful! Chai tea FO really does sounds wonderful. I remember once using a White Willow tea FO that was great, but I don't remember where I purchased it.

AND for Thanksgiving in Canada- what is a tradition to have as a meal. In the USA it's turkey and all the trimmings.

    1. So wonderful to see you Carrie! You must be crazy busy with your beautiful store. Having that extra day to spend time with the ones you love is definitely a bonus.

It was fun playing with the leaf embeds, that's for sure. Your White Willow tea FO sounds yummy! I'm thinking they're perfect for this time of year.

I think Canadian Thanksgiving is also big on having turkey, at least that's what all the grocery stores tell us we should have. :) And so by the time Christmas dinner rolls around, we're ready for more turkey again.

  3. I hate Thanksgiving. LOL! I wish I could say that I sit around with the family and talk about what we're thankful for but nope, we don't. We complain about Columbus and how badly treated our indigenous neighbors are. You know me... I am always complaining about something. LOL!!

I like your choice to scatter the leaves throughout the soap. Very pretty! And your choice of leaf types & colors... so perfect for fall!

    1. To me, Thanksgiving is like Christmas; I don't take it in the commercialized context that it's become, but I use it as an excuse to get together with friends and family.

I'm so glad you clarified it's you writing Michelle, otherwise, I'd think your daughter was very, very mature for her age. Not that she isn't. ;)

I was just happy to use up some more leftover soaps for something semi-useful. Next time though, I think I need to add some reds, greens and blues to make it really pop.

  4. Okay, first off? These soaps kick ass. And that chai fragrance is a perfect scent pick for this design. Love them!

I love Thanksgiving. It's my favorite holiday. But I guard it with a vengeance - no shopping, no newspapers with their ads out, no screens of any kind. In the US, Thanksgiving is just Christmas part one so it's easy to lose the magic of it around the steaming pile of American consumerism that keeps encroaching on it.

I find baking tends to help. And consuming mass quantities of pie.

    1. Thanks Lindsey! I like the fact that both the design and scent is very gender neutral, that way no one can complain about it being too frou frou or too masculine. ;)

You don't do the Thanksgiving shopping? My husband was drooling with anticipation over your Thanksgiving sales for this year, having missed it last year.

If you're making pie, I'm coming over! I'll even bring the whipped cream for the pie.

    1. Thanks Jenny! I enjoyed not having to be too detailed and could just throw the leaves down willy nilly, that's really more my style. :)

Thanksgiving was really nice, good weather and great company. It's true, before you know it, it's going to be American Thanksgiving and then Christmas. Eeek! Pumpkin pie, drool.
