During my last visit to Otion, in a temporary moment of insanity (wait, that's wrong, it's usually moments of sanity. Well never mind) I went and bought some citric acid to make bath fizzes. Why is this wrong? Because I'm so not a bath person! When I want to get clean, I want to do it quickly, not sit around in a tub until the water get cold.
I'm sure someone will enjoy these though. I used the star mould as well as the beach mould to make these and scented it with Exotic Fruit Smoothie from Brambleberry. I guess I didn't mix the colour in well enough but I don't mind the spots of concentrated colours.
Oh, and I learned something this weekend, some techniques (well probably most) that work for CP soaps doesn't translate well to MP soaps.
Apparently, stamping doesn't work quite as well on MP soaps, even when you try and make it sparkle with glitter. |
As long as they're pretty enough to sell, you won't have to use your own bath fizzies. :) Did you buy a stamp somewhere? What's the pattern?
ReplyDeleteThat's a very good point Teresa! And I think having something else in my repertoire will be good for getting into craft fairs.
DeleteThe stamp is one you gave me, which I'll give back to you. It's the Chinese "Fortune" sign.
Neither do I take long bath in the tub, but I occasionally feel I need one. I've also tried to make fizzies and tried them in my kid's bath, hihi. And unlikely yours stylish, mine were ordinary ones. I hope someone will enjoy them,if you decide not to try them.
ReplyDeleteAnd, like your sister, I don't see what's on this stamp, looks interesting, though.
I wouldn't mind every so often taking a bath either Maja, except my bathtub has a straight back which doesn't' allow you to recline, so really makes soaking in it a not so pleasurable experience. Did your daughter enjoy the bath fizzes you made for her? I'm sure yours were lovely, just like everything you make.
DeleteIt's hard to see what the design was supposed to be because like the Wicked Witch of the West, it started to melt when I put the heat gun on to try and make the embossing powder stick.
I really love the way your bath bombs turned out with the speckles of color. I have to say that making bath goodies has made me into a bath person again, which is a good thing!
ReplyDeleteI know of a lady who places unmounted rubber stamps face up in her MP mold and then pours the MP on top, and then she takes out the MP soap and peels off the rubber stamp. Does that make sense? You could probably brush the stamp face with mica too.
Thank you Cee! I thought it meant I wasn't diligent enough in mixing in the colours, but maybe I just didn't use the right type of colouring and it would've ended up with clumps of colour, no matter how long I stirred it. It's always good to have an excuse to try out your own products right? Especially when you have kids in the house. ("Don't bother me kids, I'm testing my products right now." as you lay in the tub enjoying some quiet time. ;} )
DeleteThat makes total sense and I should definitely try that. I just need to find a stamp that I'm not enamoured with in case I screw it up. Thanks for the idea!
Congrats on expanding your horizons, Monica! :) who knows, you might want to spend more time in the tub with your bath fizzies. :). When I am not in a rush, I like having a long shower. I love using the bathtub when I am in a nice hotel, but at home, the tub begs to be used. I think it's just a bit too hot in my bathroom for a bath. I end up sweating while in the tub. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Silvia! I was getting stagnant for ideas for soaping, so it's nice to change things up. I like the long showers too, because I like a constant stream of hot water. You probably like it for the exact opposite right? Maybe you just need to run the AC on full blast while having a bath. ;)
DeleteCute bath fizzies, Monica! It's good to try new things. I know what you mean about stamping M&P - I tried that once and did not have good results. Cee's suggestion to use an unmounted stamp works great, though. I usually use a bit of melted M&P as "glue" to make the stamp stick to the inside of the mold, let that dry, and then pour the rest of the M&P over it. The stamp peels away easily when you unmold. It's a fun way to jazz up your soap!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jenny! Yes, it's good to keep trying out different soaping things and just keep the brain active trying to think up new ideas. I'm glad I'm not the only one who found out the hard way not to stamp MP soaps.
DeleteSince you and Cee both endorsed it, I'll definitely have to try the stamp on the bottom of the mould idea. Thanks!
