To honour my sister and her writing group, the Penguins...and it's getting cold out

Going out to a store is dangerous, you never know when you will run into a mould you just have to have! I found that mould the other day. Of course it's meant for ice cubes, which to a soaper means it's perfect for making soaps! Well almost perfect; it's pretty darned difficult to peer inside a black mould (almost as difficult as reading inside a dog). It was difficult to stay within the lines, as you can see, and the eyes were really tough to fill in because well, black on black. I think I need a celebration between Hallowe'en and Christmas to highlight these penguins, maybe call it Hallowmas, what do you think?

Did you know:  a group of penguins is called a colony, a rookery or a Waddle, but these terms are typically used for a group of penguins on land.

A group of penguins floating in the ocean is called a raft.

Then they just started getting silly.

16 more of these guys and I could have my own "penguins" hockey team. :D

Have a great week!

  1. The mold must be small and hard to work with and you got such excellent details?! That's awesome!

    1. It's about 2.5 oz total, so yeah, kinda small. I think if I didn't kill my injector tool, it might've gone better. Glad you like it. :)

    1. Thanks Elaine! Well seeing how I get a total of 3 regular readers on this blog, so immortalized is a relative term. ;)

  3. Oooh, I love these Penguins! I think our group identifies as a waddle! (Never knew that!) You did an amazing job with these soaps!

    1. Glad you like them Yvonne! You guys are a waddle? That's hilarious! It was certainly fun playing with details in soap.

  4. We are definitely a waddle -- and you have unwittingly become our mascot maker! These are FABULOUS!!!! I used to make molded chocolates, so I know how difficult it is to get details in those little spaces. You must have the hands of a surgeon. :D

    1. As long as you don't all waddle! :D You guys remind me of The Far Side cartoon penguins though. ;)

I'm very happy to be the mascot maker Renee, these were great fun to make. I have more the hands of a T-Rex than a surgeon. ;>

  6. They are so cute! It must have been so difficult to fill them in. You have been incredibly patient once again. It is a shame we live on different continents. We could organise some MOLD swaps...

    1. They really are adorable, and it's amazing what you can find when you're not looking for it. I would love to live close to you, you could teach me so much about how you make your beautiful soaps and yes, we could definitely swap moulds.

    1. Perhaps Amazon or EBay would have those moulds? I know Amazon seems to be the go to place for practically everything.

    1. Thanks Jenny! They're great fun to make even though it can be frustrating not being able to see if you've filled in the details properly or not.
