Mother Forklift!

I got that off a Pinterest humour page. Originally this post was to be titled Cherry Blossom, but I've been hit by the soaping gremlin and nothing's working right.

I always think of spring when I see cherry blossoms. Actually it used to make me think "yay, final exams are coming soon which means campus will be quiet again" but since I'm no longer affected by it, I don't think about spring that way anymore.

Cherry blossoms are quite prolific here and I love walking or driving down streets where all you see are  cherry blossoms in bloom. This is my tribute to them. Again I tried to make layers, hoping it'd show through with thicker layers of clear soap between.

This is the idea I wanted. However, I just *had* to add another layer, which made sense to keep all the "cherry blossoms" in place.
I scented it with a combination of pineapple cilantro and raspberry kisses. Maybe I put in too much of the raspberry kisses, but it turned my clear yellow, hiding the delicate colour of the pink soap (and totally negating my point of trying to make this look like cherry blossoms!) and that's why I put a few more on top, to show off the colour.
Well you can see the tree branches and other layers if you have x-ray vision, and you all have that, don't you?

You can almost see the branches from the underside of the soap. On the bright side, it smells nice. All 3 that didn't turn out.

My final attempt at getting the picture in my head into my soap mould.
If anyone has any ideas as to why my clear soap turned cloudy on me (besides the fact that I've wronged some soaping god), I'd love to hear it.

What is your sign that spring is coming or has arrived? Have a great week everyone!

  1. All I know is that some scents will do weird things to the color of the soap. You'll have to wait for your wise soaping friends to tell you. Don't you hate it when things don't translate IRL from the image in your mind? Sorry your soaping weekend didn't turn out like you want it to.

    1. I've heard it can discolour in CP soaps Teresa, but I've never had a problem (well maybe a little with vanilla based scents) until now. Most things don't translate well out of my head, which is why I've learned to keep my mouth shut most of the time. ;) Hopefully this coming long weekend the gremlin will have found someone else to bother instead.

  2. Sorry, but I didn't get you well. The first soap looks adorable and the last one looks like its distorted twin. Are these stages of the same process, with pic no.1 being first one?
I can't help you with what went wrong, but would be interesting to hear what others think.

    1. The first soap is what it was looking like before I added the final layer Maja. Distorted twin, that's hilarious! I think that's what I am to my sister despite our age difference. ;)

Yes, the soaps were made all the same way (more or less) and the first picture is what I wanted the final product to look like.

    2. Ok, that was what I thought. It looked perfect, but I guess I don't need to tell you that you shouldn't have added anything more.
I made the same mistake recently. I finished the soap and topped it quite nicely, then I thought I could make it prettier and went on swirling. Do I need to I say that I made a mess, fuglier then ever?

    3. Hindsight is 20/20 right Maja? Or 10/20 if you need glasses. ;)

I can't imagine any of your soaps being even the slightest bit unattractive, let alone downright fugly. But those are the lessons we learn as we try out new projects.

    4. I needed to google the expression 'hindsight is 20/20', but that's what I love in communication with native speakers!
About the soap- you will see I'm right, but still no new posts from me, until I get back to Macedonia.

    5. Oh I wish I'd learned another language in my youth, I am so envious of those of you who can speak several languages with such fluency. It's always interesting to see what phrases we take for granted that are uncommon to non-native English speakers.

I hope you're having a good time wherever you are right now Maja. I'm sure your soap won't be nearly as bad as you say because your stuff always turns out great.

  3. I wish I had some helpful advice but I know nothing about M&P. I'm learning from you :) I love spring and fall soaps - the best fragrances come into play during those two seasons!

    1. If you're learning about MP soaps from me Michelle, you're in big trouble.

I agree, spring and fall are wonderful for the scents that lend themselves to those times of the year.

  4. The first one looks great! Was that before you added another layer?

The soaping gremlins make you funnier! :D Good for us, but not good for you. :D

    1. Yes, it was Silvia. It was what I hoped the final result would look like. I'm glad I took a picture of it before the whole thing went sideways.

I think I'd rather be soaping more successfully and be as boring as an accountant. (Kidding, I'm sure accountants have a great sense of humour!)

  5. Oh, this is soo like me. I get something just right, stand back, admire my soap and then think I can make it a little better.........uh no.
My mantra should be "less is more"

    1. Thank you for stopping by Veronica. I like your mantra and it's one I should adopt, but sometimes it's just so difficult to do!

I love your farm life, it seems idyllic and so much fun. Well tons of work, but well worth it. Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Oh, no! It's so disappointing when soap does weird things. The cherry blossom idea is so cute, and I like what you did in the first photo. My guess is that the fragrance oil made the soap go yellow. I've had some scents turn my M&P yellow or orange before. And, of course, vanilla scents go brown. What a bummer! I hope the soap gremlins move on from your house soon!

    1. It's very frustrating especially when this isn't the only soaping project that's gone sideways on me. I'm glad you liked the concept of the cherry blossoms at least Jenny.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the scents, I knew about vanilla turning things brown, but never knew about scents turning soaps other colours. I'm hoping the gremlins leave this planet soon, they're pissing off quite a few soapers.
