Spring soap

I did a run to Otion yesterday (well not literally, I don't think I'd even run around the block without hurting myself) and managed not to spend all my allowance in one shot. ;) The only thing I really needed was the 25lb box of clear MP soap, but that didn't stop me from buying some dark chocolate FO (I need it, really!), some stearic acid (Cee and Silvia inspired purchases), citric acid because I keep looking at the bath bomb tutorials and getting all excited, and the aluminum free deodorant base. I think I'm going to have enough to keep me busy for a while.

So after I purchased all those goodies, what do I make? Something with what I've had on hand for a while of course. My sister had given me a lovely 3D dragonfly mould when I first got her stash of soaping supplies, and I never tried it out. Don't ask me why, laziness mostly. Again, I had in mind how I wanted it to look but how it turns out is not quite the same.

One thing I knew for sure is I didn't want the whole thing the same colour, I wanted a pretty sky blue background to make it spring like. The dragonfly, by rights, should be more greenish, but being a purple gal, I went that route instead. The lighting was starting to go when I was scraping off the excess yellow for the stars and moon, and the moon didn't want to come out completely so let's just pretend some clouds are covering part of it, okay?

For some reason, they cornflower blue turned more green than blue, maybe something I had in the soap? For whatever reason, the background turned more greenish than blue, but it still smells nicely of Crafter's Choice Raspberry Kisses. I was going to try Silvia's technique of mixing a floral with a fruit scent, but I got…squirrel! But there's always next time right?

The end result accompanied by a card my sister made with dried flowers from her garden.
Hope you all have a great week.

  1. It looks gorgeous in the photo! Is the Chocolate FO the Dark Rich Chocolate one? Because the DRC one is the best chocolate FO out there that I've ever smelled. :)

    1. Thanks Teresa! I think it's your card that upped the good looking factor in that picture. ;)

I bought the DRC, I was telling everyone the chocolate espresso was just chocolate, so might as well go all out chocolate instead.

  2. This green is actually very beautiful, the type of green I like the best. I wonder what could turn blue into green!? Very unusual and unique soap,Monica, I love it.
(You're so fun. I was imagining you running around, falling down, breakinig your legs... It could sound even serious, if it wasn't so hilarious! How on earth could you hurt yourself??? )

    1. Thank you Maja. That's the problem is I'll probably never be able to recreate it again. :P Maybe it turned more green for the same reason I can't use it for embedding, it's a low sweat and maybe that changes the composition somewhat? But all that matters is that people like you like it. =)

Oh I am a total klutz, just ask my sister. I have been known to trip and fall while walking on a level surface in flat shoes. I kick myself in the ankle sometimes (not intentionally, or maybe it's my other personality that does it).

  3. It looks magical! That could explain the color, which is beautiful by the way. :)

    1. Aww, that's so sweet of you Silvia. You're right, maybe this soap grabbed some leprechaun magic and hence the green colour.

  4. Wow, I really like that green color! I only wish I could obtain it using natural colorants.

    1. Thanks Nat! Is there anything natural that would come even close to that green? I love how you use all natural products in your soap and your desserts, I would love to be as healthy as you.

  5. The dragonfly is so pretty! What a perfect soap for spring. It's cool that you live so close to Otion. I'd love to visit them someday!

    1. Thank you Jenny. A friend of mine had mentioned her love of dragonflies, so that got me thinking…

It could be very dangerous living this close to Otion, but thankfully there's still a border between us and therefore, the possibility of paying duties when I bring too much back. That is something I try & avoid. :)

  6. I'm with everyone else, I really like the green! It is such a pretty soap... that is really a great mold to work with, so many options with just that one. I am jealous... wish I lived near Otion. I still plan on getting out that way and when I do, you and I are hitting Otion together :D

    1. Thanks Michelle! It's funny how everyone does like the green so much and it was so completely unintentional. You're right, I never thought about all the different colour combinations you could do with just that one mould. You are brilliant.

I can't wait, we're going to paint the town red, and then clean it off with the supplies we get from Otion. :D
