Dreams, Dreamers and Expectations

The problem with being by myself is that I think about things, or some annoying song runs through my head and drives me insane. So today, I was thinking about dreams. Not the type in your sleep, although I had a doozy of a dream the other night ( but that's another story) but the type that you want to come true.

I think you can have dreams without being a dreamer, but dreamers always have dreams. Our mother had dreams; she had dreams of bettering herself, and she made that dream come true by going back to school while working full-time and raising a family. Our dad on the other hand, is a dreamer. His dream is that he's a philosopher, psychologist and artist. I'm not saying he isn't, but not in a manner that he would be paid to philosophize, analyze people or have people commission him to do artwork. I don't know if my soap business is a dream that I can make come true, or if I'm just being a dreamer. What inspired this thought was reading this article  http://www.care2.com/greenliving/life-is-unsafe-so-why-not-take-risks.html It makes sense, but taking the plunge is scary and not being the risk taking type, it's doubly so.

Are you a risk taker, or do you prefer to play it safe? Happy weekend everyone.

  1. I say "go for the gusto!" though I don't follow my advice. I'm still too afraid of failure and, as we've discussed in private, we've not got our mom's smarts.

    That said, I think we should try harder to overcome our "handicap" of having part of dad's genes and give it our all. We're middle-aged now, hon, I feel like it's now or never sometimes. We must take the plunge! I'll hold your hand! <3

  2. It's easier to be someone else's cheerleader, isn't it? I think I have to balance out the go for the gusto with getting some steady income. You are just as smart as mom and have the same drive, so you can do what you want and succeed at it.

    You're right about having to give it our all and I think if I had more money behind me, I'd leave the rat race behind right now and go follow the dream. However, having our parents' common sense gene, I'm playing it more safe than one should, at least for now. WIll you come have a drink with me instead? ;)

  3. I was just reading an article about starting your own biz and they do caution to not up and quit your job (or in your case, don't stop looking for a job) and plunge into the biz full-time from the start. Sound advice that I'd read elsewhere. :) Maybe you should post a sign for yourself that says, "Start small but give it your all!"?

    Me, I've got the backing so I need a different different sign for me, maybe one that says, "No guts, no glory!" :}

    1. Don't quit your day job unless your spouse is making gobs of money or you win the lottery? I think your sign is a great idea, it's a very good saying.

      Maybe you've found your new calling to do motivational signs. :)

    2. Oh yeah...I can make signs like "quit your whining and go volunteer with the Peace Corp". Heh heh.

    3. I'm sure lots of parents would buy that sign, save them from having to say it over and over again.

  4. I'm not a risk taker. I'm way to afraid of failure. I read once that if you post a picture of the things you want where you see it everyday that it eventually comes true. I have a picture of a farm house with chickens on the wall in my kitchen :D

    I like "quit your whining and go volunteer with the Peace Corp" - I may have to buy that sign from Teresa hang up in my kids bedrooms :)

    1. I hear ya about being fearing failure, it's what makes me reluctant to try anything different or to push myself to do new things. A farmhouse, are you going to go to Teresa's place to take a picture of her house?

      That'd be great if you buy that sign from Teresa, maybe you can show it to your friends and start a trend. :>
