Back to Basics

I was thinking that I should start each of my posts from now on with some random thought that's completely unrelated to soaping, but thank your lucky stars, I'm too darned lazy even though I'd formulated everything in my head already.

Seeing how last week's soaping experiment didn't go quite as planned, I thought I'd make something simpler this time, thinking it'd work so much better. Each time I try something new, it just reminds me that I gotta practice, practice practice.

My first set of soaps for this week went okay, but how can you go wrong with making single colour melt and pour?
Next time, more sparkles!

I wanted to use up some of the leftover soaps I have which is why I created this little project as well.

I was hoping for a clearer delineation between the colours, but otherwise, a perfectly useable soap.

What did you do for fun this weekend?

  1. Those are so pretty, love the bright colors and shapes of the jewels and the layered soap is so pretty!

We took it easy this weekend, the kids were tired after their first week back at school! Nice to have the warm weather stick around though, enjoying it while we can! Hope you have a great week! :)

  2. I think the layers would've worked better if I had been less impatient and allowed more time for each layer to cool before putting the next one on. Live and learn right?

Was it tough for the kids to go back to school or did they look forward to it? Makes life at home a little more hectic when everyone's rushing around in the morning I'd imagine. That's the great thing about September, the weather is usually so nice it's hard to imagine we're headed into the rainy season.

    Thanks Cee, you too!

    1. Thanks Anne-Marie! Your soap queen tv videos are a great inspiration, and now you're making the hamsters in my head go a bit faster wondering how I can jazz up those gemstones some more.

    1. Thanks Jenny! The mulit-coloured soap is good for someone who didn't want something too flowery or too masculine. In hindsight, I should've put the jewel soaps on a background that would've given it more pizazz but maybe next time. :)

  5. So I'm with Jenny - I love that last soap which incorporates all the colors together. It's very mood ring-ish! I dig it! You should do more of those!

  6. I wish I could create such shiny soaps with CP, they are truly great-looking! And the other one is beautiful, so smooth and transparent, looks like glass!

    1. I'm sure you could make shiny soaps Maja, you are incredibly talented and just haven't gotten around to trying it yet. I think if I bought some super clear clear base, I'd get a really nice shiny effect.

  7. Ohh, those soap jewels are so cute and so perfectly done! With such shuny colors an shapes, really beautiful!
And the layered soap looks like a gradient colored soap!!!

    1. Thanks Natalia, I think it was my inner crow wanting to make something shiny.

You're right, I had got it into my head to do a multi coloured layered soap before I saw that it was the theme for the soap challenge. How serendipitous is that?

  8. Patience, Grasshopper! Still, I think those turned out pretty well.

    1. You know me Teresa, patience has never been one of my virtues, nor has keeping focused. ;) I think the next time I try to make it, it'll turn out that much better.

  9. Your soap gems are so cute and fun! The layered soap does have a nice effect. I am not very good with names of semi precious stones, but I think it looks like a moonstone or something like that? :-)

    1. Thanks Silvia! You know your gems better than I do, the only moonstone I know is the book by Wilkie Collins.
