Happy Mother's Day

For Mother's Day, we took my mother and father-in-law out for brunch. Thankfully we got there shortly after the restaurant opened and it wasn't too busy. I'd say the brunch was as much for me as for them since it's a rib place and I'm such a carnivore.

During lunch, my mother-in-law mentioned that she was cleaning up her house and was getting rid of a lot of things, including her baking tools. Of all her kids and grandkids, I'm really the only one with enough kitchen space to house a lot of pots and pans and I love to bake. So, afterwards, we went back to their place where she proceeded to load me up with all sorts of baking pans, including one that was from a bakery in San Francisco.

It's a beautiful book, full of lovely pictures. I'd love to say I'm going to try out each one of those recipes, but I'm no Julia Powell of the baking world.

I hope all of you wonderful mothers are being spoiled rotten and that you in turn are telling your mom how awesome she is.

  3. Oh, is there anything for soaping? Or, are you gonna become a chef now? Please, don't post yummy pics, cos looking at them make me go for sugar!

    1. I would love to see you make soap like one of those cakes Maja. (Notice how I ask you to do it rather than saying I'd try to make it?) I'm leaving the expert baking and frosting to Silvia and Cee, those ladies know how to make the most delectable goodies.

I can look at those pictures as long as I'm not in the mood to bake. Maybe you just need to make one of Nat's desserts to help you feel better. ;)

    2. "I can look at those pictures as long as I'm not in the mood to bake." Me too, with a slightly different end:'.......to eat'
Which is almost all the time at nights, when I usually read the blogs!
No,no, you're gonna make soaps,I'm not equipped with the tolls!

    3. The only reason I can resist the temptation (most of the time) of these yummy desserts is because I'm more of a salt person, so show me a steak or fries at night and I'll be craving it until I get something salty to eat.

I need to go back to your blog to get inspired to make more soaps. But you're more than welcome to come visit me and I'll make you some desserts. :)

  5. Anytime I can let my carnivorous side out, I'm a happy camper. I will definitely be putting those baking pans to good use very soon.

  6. Wow, that book looks great, maybe you can find some inspiration for your soaps, Monica! The 3rd cake is something I want to try, just waiting for the right moment!
I hope you found some useful tools for your kitchen!

    1. I hope so too Nat, I've been feeling rather unmotivated of late, so I need something to push me along. I can't wait to see the pictures of when you do make a dessert like that 3rd cake, your stuff always has me wanting to eat sweets and I'm not a big dessert person.
