Diamond are...

A girl's best friend, forever, and not featured at all in this post.

Second of the moulds from my birthday, I bring you the gem collection. My friend, upon giving me my moulds had said she was excited to see what I would come up with. Well the bamboo one was easy, it allowed me to do detail work which is fun and looks good. For gems though, what do you do?

Well I did it a little differently for each one (kinda feels like the Three Bears, except none of these are just right).

To give it some contrast and for fun, I tried marbling. Of course, I forgot, do you pour the clear and then the opaque, or is it the other way round? I poured clear first and although I didn't think much of the effects at first, under the camera, it looked better than I originally thought.

Thought I'd ry and get creative with the back as well, but it looks like an Easter egg gone wrong.
The next was a straight forward one colour, no nonsense one.

That of course is kinda boring. I mean it's not like it's a real ruby and would be worth a gazillion dollars or anything so time to make things sparkle.

Adding glitter to this last one made it look kinda celestial, which is cool by me. And that made me think, so how would it look in another context?

All gems are scented with BB's Bordeaux Blend (to stick with the grown up theme). I would love to hear suggestions on how to make these soaps more outstanding.

Have a great week!

  1. I love that blue-sparkly one! Looks a bit like lapis lazuli. Can you use the colors in the SoapyLove kits to make the ruby one more transparent so it looks more gem-like?

That first one is pretty cool too!

I suppose a super clear MP could make a nice diamond, esp if you added some sparkles to it.

    1. It does have a dark blue like lapis doesn't it Teresa? That's a good idea, I was using leftover I don't even remember what to make the diamond shaped one. It was more to use up some soaps, but I definitely should try more of a red next time. Yes, I will have to make a diamond next because who doesn't like a huge diamond? ;)

  2. HI Monica, I am going to try posting again. LOL!

I had posted that I really love all the soaps, they are so pretty! The 2nd soap reminds me of a stone I have that looks much like this:http://www.therockshed.com/eggs/egg100a.jpg

The soap with glitter reminds me of laying outdoors in the summer looking at the night sky :-) All are great! Just one thing... can we turn that ruby red one into a real stone and turn it into a ring for my birthday? Heehee!

    1. I'm glad you came back and re-posted Michelle. I know that frustration of having written something only to have the computer eat it.

Your egg rock is gorgeous! And if I could make the ruby into a real one, I'd be more than happy to give it to you for your birthday.

  3. Interesting, neither was my comment published.
I can't help you much with advises on how to deal with m&p bases, but I'm sure you will find lots of tutorials on Pinterest. I've seen there are m&p gems with instructions, so I believe you can find something.
I like the first one,it's very unique and the colours are gorgeous together. Also, the ruby is beautiful,it's not boring at all.

    1. Blogger must've been having an off day, but I"m glad you persevered as well Maja. I should look at Pinterest for ideas and then never get out of the Pinterest abyss again. :D

Thank you, the more I look at the first one, the more I like it but at the start, I really didn't care for it. Rubies are beautiful in their simplicity. :)

    1. Thank you Nat, that's so sweet of you to say that! I think for once, heating the soap just a little higher than I should worked out to my advantage. Yes, wouldn't it be nice if it were a real diamond? :)

  5. Cool soaps, Monica! I like the swirly white and purple and the glittery blue. The ruby is also very pretty - sparkly micas are great for gem soaps. The dinosaur is cute, too!

    1. Thanks Jenny! Sometimes I think the photos turn out better than the soaps themselves. :D You're right, I need to add more sparkle to my gems, next batch for sure.
