Finished at last, finished at last (with apologies to MLK)

I was hoping to have the toque completed before yesterday, so that I could tell y'all about it. However, as usual, my knitting projects are more about deconstructing than moving forward. I had almost completed before I realized I didn't read the instructions correctly. My bad, and that meant more unravelling before moving forward again.

Yesterday I was also hit with a huge sneezing and snuffling fit which my co-worker told me was probably a cold. Whoever said that sneezing is like having the big O has not done it consecutively for 2 hours. I was tuckered out by the time I got home and after a quick dinner, went straight to bed to try and sleep this cold off.

It wasn't until this afternoon I finally completed my project, and here is the final result. Let's just hope it fits on hubby's head.

Excuses, Excuses

I have to confess, I've been neglecting my soap business of late. Actually besides going to work and making sure there's meals to be had, I've pretty much ignored everything; friends, family, Facebook, Twitter.

The reason for this? I'm attempting to knit a touque. According to the instructions, it's easy peasy, nothing to it; for me, it's one step forward, 16 steps back. What should've taken at the most, a weekend is taking me 2-3 weeks and I'm still not done. My big problem was not taking the lesson I learned from soapmaking and applying it here. See I haven't knit in quite a while now and so while I got the basic knit and purl in my head still, there are other things, like knitting with 3 DPN that shouldn't be left to chance. I should've reviewed some videos on how to do it before attempting it. I managed to take the project back about 3 steps because I was too impatient. Guess that's going to be on next year's new year's to do list, learn patience.

I was hoping to have the completed project to show you, so I can say, see this is why I've slacked off in commenting on blogs or updating my site, but this is all I can show so far.

The end result is supposed to look like this.

So wish me luck in getting it to look remotely like that. At this point, I'll be grateful to have it fit on the head without falling apart.

So how have the tasks on your to do list coming along? Are you finding excuses not to complete them, or are you forging forward and crossing things off your list, left right and centre?

Where's the nearest chapter of Procrastinator's Anonymous?

I like to think it's still early in the year, I have plenty of time to work on my "to do" list (not New Year's resolutions), but it zips by so quickly! Chinese New Year's coming up as is my nephew's birthday and then before you know it, it's going to be spring craft fairs.

I know I can't make one craft fair already because I'll be visiting my sister (yippee!!!) but I still need to keep an eye out for other craft fairs, just to make sure I keep pushing myself.

I haven't done a single thing on my website despite best intentions. Anyone else have problems with work getting in the way of doing what you want? And I can't approach the companies I want to talk to unless I have my website running a little more properly.

Then there are those things disguised as useful for business:  Twitter and Facebook. I don't use them for business much, more to hook up with friends and catch up on what's going on in their lives. Bad, bad me.

So, how are you doing with your New Year's resolutions? Have you accomplished everything on your list, or are you like me and working towards your Ph.D. in procrastination?

No resolutions for me thanks, I'm full

I haven't made a New Year's resolution in ages, partly because I don't like being told when to make drastic changes to my life, but mostly I need to make those changes when I think of it, not at a set date. As my Christmas newsletter showed, I can't remember much after a year has passed, so I have to do things right away or else they'll pass through my brain like a breeze.

Being no Scarlett O'Hara, I'm going to have you, dear readers, as my witnesses to get the following things done, or at least attempted.

  • Establish contact with stores to take on my soaps. At least one or two stores, if I can contact more, then I get to celebrate. :)
  • Complete my website. It's about 80% there but I need to refine and re-jig.
  • Sign up for more craft fairs. That means getting my act together and signing up a lot sooner.
  • Get together with friends more often. I'm bad about keeping in touch with people so I need to get off my butt and just do it.
  • Do one act of kindness once a week. I'll work my way up to once a day...maybe.
What about you? Did you make any New Year's resolutions? Do you normally? Do you keep your resolutions?
