Peer Pressure

I thought I was at an age where I didn't care anymore what others did or thought. Obviously I'm wrong. On the Shout out to Melt & Pour Facebook group, everyone's been gearing up for Valentine's. Hearts abound, hearts galore, beautiful uses of hearts and wonderful creations. Okay, I think to myself, I'll join in the fun, I'll do some Valentine's themed soaps as well.

First, I took a bunch of leftover soaps to make the hearts, then I made a loaf and two individual guest soaps. Inevitably, the idea in my head is better than what comes out, and the real product is better than what the picture shows. In case you're wondering why the ones in the loaves don't look like hearts from the angle the picture is taken, it's because they're tilted on their sides. They're a little off, like their owner.

I don't know why, but my loaves, before I cut them, always reminds me of rowing. I't's not like I have ever been on a rowing team.

Ideally I would've been making Chinese New Year themed soaps instead of Valentine's soaps, but I don't have that adorable sheep mould yet. Maybe in another 12 years I'll get around to it.

Layering

That's what makes the most sense this time of year; bundle up for the weather outside, but take off most of it when you're inside where it's hopefully nice and cozy. Layering works great in that situation, lots of layers so you can shed them as you need but thin layers so you can make slight changes to adjust your comfort level.

Lots of layers don't work for me, at least not when soaping. Or maybe I just need more practice and should stop being so lazy. This is just for home use, so I'm not too bothered by it. Plus, it smells of "Grandma's Griddle with a hint of fruit (because who doesn't like some fruit syrup on their waffles?) so at least it smells really yummy.

Life is not black and white...

but my soap is!

Happy 2015 to all! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas/winter season/whatever you celebrated and had a great time ringing in the new year. Me, I had a small gathering of 4 people for Christmas (that way I don't freak out at having too many people in the house at one time) and then went to bed by 10:30 on New Year's Eve. Yes, I know how to party.

Of course I had great plans of doing lots of things during the break, but as always, my plans are lofty but my ability to fulfill them fall short (kinda like me! Hah, short jokes!) (Aren't you all glad that I didn't make giving up bad jokes a New Year's resolution, or to give up the overuse of parentheses, or to stop rambling on and on?) So, Friday, January 01, I'm madly trying to clean up (again) my craft room and cutting up a ton of base for when I do finally start a project. I did try and get some ideas formulated in my head and have been working on display ideas but so far, nothing earth shattering has been accomplished.

I did however, come up with a basic colour scheme for my latest idea:  black and white. Nothing is more pure or simple and yet it's still elegant. I used up some leftovers to create this and poured a layer of clear over the entire thing to see if it'll hold together. I'll have to try it out and report back.

I cheated with this one by changing it to B&W to look more like what I had envisioned.

This is more the true colour of the soap. The white isn't true white because I didn't add extra titanium dioxide and I guess goat's milk isn't as white?

The scent is a watermelon/champagne mix.
