I can do anything

That's what Hedley sings. Apparently that's not going to be my theme song.

When we were younger, we went to Disneyland as a family, and after watching the fireworks from our motel room, my sister jumped over a strip of rocks between the driveway and the sidewalk to our room. I said, "I can do that too!" She closes the door on me for fun, and when she opened up the door, I'm down on my hands and knees in front of the door, cursing. Apparently, I couldn't jump over that strip successfully. (she loves telling that story BTW).

Fast forward to 2015, I see an awesome tutorial on Soapqueen and I think "hey I can do that." Maybe if I had done it in a loaf like she did, it might've turned out, but I didn't want to make a loaf, I wanted to make guest squares. Needless to say, it's another craft fail. Plus, I forgot to add a pretty flower on top. At least they smell good being scented with Moonlight Pomegranate.

On the bright side, I got a bunch of new things for the kitchen.

Hope you had a more successful week than I did.

  1. I think those look really pretty, actually. Like Shirley said, great color!

I have that same Simplehuman dish rack. :) The madolin, though, makes me nervous. Hubby's cousin had to be rushed to ER after taking a huge chunk out of her finger using it. And so many chefs on Chopped have had accidents with it. I will not use it without the handle grip for the veggie you're wanting to slice.

    1. Thank you Teresa! I do like the colour, but the actual design didn't turn out the way it should. It does make a difference making it in a loaf I think.

I know you have the same dish rack, I figured if you thought it was good, then it must be. You did my research for me. :)

The mandoline, like any tool, has to be treated with respect and a lot of caution. I make sure to use the grip when the veggie gets to be too small a piece to hold on its own, but it is a fabulous instrument.

  2. I don't see what's wrong with the soap. It's a lovely shade of blue.

Ahhh, it's always fun to shop for the kitchen. I have a similar Simplehuman dish rack and a kettle with that shape. I have a few mandolins but somehow I always reach for the knife. :D

    1. Thanks Silvia! I love the colour (cornflower blue from BB) but the design is all wrong. I should stick to my own designs I think.

If you have the same dish rack and a similar kettle, then I know for sure I've made good purchases. I bought the mandoline with the main purpose of making chips. I would imagine you can slice very thinly without having to use a mandolin, but I'm not as talented. :)

  3. I also wouldn't call it a failure! They look like ocean with icebergs dipped in! Love the colour!

    1. Thanks Maja! I was going to make some reference to Frozen, but that has been done to death. Maybe I should call it Titanic instead. :D

    1. Thanks Gordana! I think the soap will grow on me in time, and if nothing else, it smells good.

It's always good to be able to laugh at yourself, isn't it?

  5. I do not see what is wrong with your soap Monica! It is only because you had something specific on your mind, and the result is different. But fro those who do not expect anything, your soap is very fresh, for all ages, and if the smell is great too, then people will like it!
I use the mandolin to tidy my soap edges. I think it is just the same one as yours! It works very well, though it is cheap. I bought several more expensive ones that I never managed to use, but this one is really doing the job! Hope you will enjoy it!

    1. Madame Propre, you are very wise! You are right, I didn't get the results I thought I would and therefore think it's wrong. But your thought process that it's just different is so true! I think all soapers go through that dilemma though, don't they?

THat's a great idea for cleaning up the edges, I need to try that with a mandoline, one that I'm not using for food of course. :)

    1. Thanks Jenny! I'm going to have to try more of the confetti look to see if I can get it to the point where I'm happy with it.

I love kitchen gadgets, I can blow a whole paycheque on that stuff. :D

  7. I find the soap beautiful and still so perfect! It reminds me of a cookie ice cream( a soap idea if using brown as color?).
Wish you a lovely weekend, Monica!
