Night sky

I keep looking at the galaxy soap by Otion, and I just love it! I don't do CP soaps, and I'm not sure if MP shreds would hold together the same way, so I improvised. I took a bunch of bits and pieces of soap and melted them together, not really caring what the colour would turn out to be as it would be some alien planet anyway. I poured it into a 3-D ice cube mould (well half of it anyway, since it didn't matter that I only had half a circle).  To make some distant stars, I dropped bits of leftover soap in behind the planet. The black background was created with black mica to give it a more sparkly look.

The "planet" is more greenish in real life. Still working on lighting.

This photo shows the half sphere better, but makes the "sky" look more blue than the original black

Maybe I should've called this post "how to use up leftovers" instead.

Have a great week everyone!

  1. Pretty night sky! These turned out beautifully. Using shreds as embeds is a fun way to use up leftover scraps. I need to do something with my scraps.

    1. Thanks Jenny! It's nice to be able to use up some leftovers as I have bins and bins of bits and bobs laying around and I keep thinking, I know I'll use them up eventually!

Whatever you do with your scraps, I know you'll create something really beautiful.

  2. I like the look of that soap! Will you name it "Soapy, Soapy Night?" ;)

    1. Glad you like it Teresa, guess what you'll be getting when you come to visit. ;)

I was thinking of making reference to the painting, but seeing how there are many soapers out there who do amazing replicates of it, mine pales (hah, get it?) in comparison.

  3. I like your version better than Otion's (no offense to Otion because they make great soaps too). Yours really does look like a night sky, very pretty! Your little speckled stars turned out perfect. Those leftover soap scraps sure come in handy.

    1. Awww, thanks Michelle! I love the fact that there is no right way of making a night scene and so each one is pretty in its own way and appeals to different people. I'm trying to slowly use up all the bits and pieces of soaps just so I can make more and start all over again. :D

  4. I also like yours better :-)
Do you know that on the second picture the moon looks like a ball actually, sitting on the soap surface, lol. How funny my visual perspective is,right?
Does black mica colour the lather? Oxide does very badly.

    How about 'Bright Night'?

    1. Thank you Maja! Having people I admire and respect say they like my soap means so much to me.

I'm glad you can see the moon as a ball, it means my attempts at showing the soaps in 2-D as what they look like in 3-D are working. :) I have no idea if the mica will colour the lather, I'm waiting for my sister to come and try it out for me. ;D Thanks for letting me know about the oxides, but I guess as long as they don't leave black marks on skin, it's not too bad.

I like that name, I'll have to and rename my soap that, thanks!

    1. Thank you Anne-Marie! I liked it mostly because I got to use up some leftover bits of soap and the fact that any colour soap can be coloured black and used in scenes like this. :D
